We’re swamped with offers that we just can’t in good conscious recommend.

Benzoyl Peroxide Is “Proven” To Work Well

There are, however, a couple of products, like Benzoyl Peroxide, that we hear about or receive samples from that actually do work, and we are happy to share them with you. One of these products that can actually make a big difference for your acne is benzoyl peroxide.

For the sake of full disclosure here- yes, we are compensated for each of these products that we sell. But that doesn’t mean that we’re going to compromise our integrity just for a couple of extra bucks. At the end of the day we tell it like it is, and that includes any negatives that we find in the products that we review.

Most of the time Benzoyl Peroxide is used to treat acne in a gel or cream form, with somewhere between 2.5% all the way up to 5% and 10% strength treatments depending on the severity of your acne. Overall, most people do best with 2.5% concentrations, and there isn’t a lot of proof out there that 5% and 10% concentrations of Benzoyl Peroxide actually end up working better in treating acne.

With Benzoyl Peroxide you generally want to start slow. The reason for this is the fact that it takes most people a little bit of time for their skin to build up a tolerance to Benzoyl Peroxide. It’s very common for people who use Benzoyl Peroxide to get some dry, itchy and irritated skin where they apply it. The stronger the concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide, the more skin irritations are likely to develop. There are even some people who have severe reactions to the treatment and feel some more intense sensations and reactions like burning and sometimes swelling where the treatment is applied.

However, most people have some mild reactions for the first week before their skin gets used to the treatment and it can be applied more liberally to treat acne. The reason why it can work so well is because it causes your skin to peel, making it renew itself and clean out its pores at a much faster rate than your body will naturally renew its skin. The faster your skin renews and clears itself out, the faster your skin will be able to heal and clear away acne. Benzoyl Peroxide can also help to reduce the bacterial count in your skin and pores (a big contributor to acne) because it can act as an antimicrobial agent.
